27803Shippensburg University senior outfielder Dalton Hoiles has signed a free-agent contract with the Baltimore Orioles of Major League Baseball (MLB), becoming the third Raider to join a professional organization this offseason.

Hoiles confirmed the news Wednesday morning. He is expected to report this weekend to the Aberdeen Ironbirds, Baltimore's short-season Class 'A' affiliate.

A consensus All-Region outfielder as a senior, Hoiles led the Raiders in 2018 with a .362 average, 10 home runs, 41 RBIs, 22 doubles, 41 runs and a .452 on-base percentage. Of his five single-season bests, Hoiles' 22 doubles led the Atlantic Region and tied the SU single-season school record. Hoiles also totaled 116 total bases, eighth-best in the Atlantic Region.

Among Hoiles' postseason awards include selections to the 2018 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-Atlantic Region First Team as well as All-Atlantic Region Second Team honors by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and the region's sports information directors through the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) sponsored balloting.

In 207 career games as a Raider (all starts), Hoiles ranks among SU's all-time leaders in doubles (55), RBIs (152) and hits (242). Hoiles finished as a .337 career hitter with 22 home runs, 82 extra-base hits and 138 runs scored. He produced a .414 career on-base percentage and a .519 career slugging percentage.

Hoiles joins pitcher Gabe Mosser and shortstop Cash Gladfelter in pro ball this summer. Earlier this month, Mosser was drafted by the San Diego Padres and Gladfelter was drafted by the Seattle Mariners.

In joining Baltimore, Hoiles will be a member of the same organization for which his father, Chris, played all 10 of his professional seasons.
