Senior
Gabe Mosser was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office, marking the third time in his career that he has received the weekly honor.
Â
Mosser threw the eighth solo no-hitter (10th overall) in school history on Saturday afternoon as the Raiders defeated Pittsburgh-Johnstown, 4-0, in the second game of a home doubleheader. It is the first no-hitter thrown by an SU player since southpaw Tim Freshour achieved the feat in 2009.
Â
The only blemish on the day for Mosser was a two-out walk in the sixth inning. He retired the first 17 batters he faced before the walk, and then proceeded to strike out the final four batters he faced after the walk.
Â
Mosser totaled 10 strikeouts, fanning the side in both the third inning and the seventh inning. He threw 97 pitches in recording his third win of the season. The performance was also the fourth time in his career he recorded double-digit strikeouts in a game.
Â
Mosser's award is the second consecutive weekly league honor by a Raider, as
Zack Sims was recognized last weekend for his performance against Jefferson. Monday's award accompanies previous league recognition given to Mosser on Apr. 6, 2015 and Apr. 10, 2017.
Â
Shippensburg is scheduled to host Millersville at 1 p.m. Friday in a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader from Fairchild Field. Tomorrow's game at Shepherd has been postponed due to inclement weather.
