HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. – The Shippensburg University baseball team threw a combined two-hit shutout Friday to beat Slippery Rock, 2-0, behind six innings from senior
Gabe Mosser on a beautiful day from Ting Park.
Shippensburg (2-2) needed only two runs on the day to take down Slippery Rock (0-1) in a non-conference Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) cross-over matchup.
Mosser set the tone for the Raiders on the mound, throwing six scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits while striking out seven. It was Mosser's first win of the year and the 16th of his career.
Redshirt-freshman
Noah Inch entered in the seventh and pitched two scoreless innings to bridge the gap to junior
Michael Hope, who closed the door in the ninth to pick up his second save of the season.
The Raiders tallied nine hits on the day with senior
Nick Spangler and juniors
Tommy Baggett,
Cash Gladfelter and
Drew Bene all recording multi-hit days.
Baggett and Gladfelter both tripled to account for two of the three Raider extra-base hits with Spangler accounting for the other with a double in the sixth. Baggett would score the Raiders first run in the fifth on an error by The Rock's catcher to give SU a 1-0 lead.
Shippensburg added a run in the sixth on a Gladfelter single up the middle that scored Spangler after he doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Shippensburg will return to action Saturday at 9:30 a.m. when it takes on Seton Hill in a doubleheader from Ting Park.
