Baseball Announces Five Early Signings for the 2017 Recruiting Class

Players will join SU for the 2017 fall semester

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University baseball head coach Matt Jones announced the recruitment of five student-athletes that have each agreed to attend the university and will suit up for the Raider program when they arrive in the fall of 2017. 
 
"We are really excited about this class," Jones said. "These guys can really hit. They fit right in to our offensive philosophy. Some of them came to us late in the process and we couldn't pass on the opportunity to get them in a Shippensburg uniform."
 
Jones added: "They are good students and good teammates from championship programs. Along with the talent we have returning, these guys help us get very excited about the future of Raider Baseball!"
 
The 2017 recruiting class features three players from Pennsylvania, along with one each from Virginia and West Virginia.
 
Austin Bulman

Jefferson HS (W.Va.)
 
Jefferson High School: Four-year varsity starter at Jefferson…2015 and 2016 WVSSAC 3A State Champion…career offensive statistics include: .378 batting average, .432 on base percentage, 84 RBIs, 65 runs scored, 25 doubles, four triples and three home runs…on the mound his career statistics include: 11-2 record, 2.12 ERA, 62.2 innings pitched, 77 strikeouts and 23 walks…ranked #5 overall in 2017 WV Class and #2 third basemen in WV according to Prep Baseball Report.
 
Coach Jones on Bulman: "Austin is a big time hitter and a plus defender. He has great numbers for a team that won two state championships. He comes from a legendary high school program at Jefferson (WV) playing for Coach Lowery. We think he will have the same impact on our lineup."

Lancaster Catholic High School: Two-year varsity starter at Lancaster Catholic…career numbers include: .389 batting average, .566 on base percentage, 18 RBIs, 13 runs scored, four doubles and one home run…ranked #116 overall in 2017 PA class and #22 OF in PA according to Prep Baseball Report…played summer ball for the Mid-Atlantic Rookies.
 
Coach Jones on Clair: "Brayden is a big athletic outfielder who can really hit. He's got a big arm and he defends well. He comes from an awesome family and we are excited to get him on board."
 
 
Tanner Helms

Bellefonte HS
 
Bellefonte High School: Three-year varsity starter at Bellefonte…2016 PIAA 3A State Champion…his 2016 stats include a .348 batting average, .458 on base percentage, 13 RBIs, two home runs and 19 runs scored…ranked #86 overall in the 2017 PA Class and #13 by Perfect Game for outfield…played summer ball for the Huntingdon Red Hawks…also played football and basketball at Bellefonte.
 
Coach Jones on Helms: "Tanner is really athletic. I can't wait to see what he does when he plays baseball full time. His team won a state championship and he is a big reason why. I love his grit and toughness…he will fit right in."

Coach Jones on Knotts: "Scout has incredible upside. We are so impressed with his size and athleticism. He's got pop from both sides. He can play corner infield, corner outfield, and has raw potential on the mound. He brings a lot to the table."

Coach Jones on Williamson: "We have been watching Logan for a couple years. He is very good with a bat in his hands. He plays both spots in the middle infield. We have had great success with Mark Curtis and Mike Marcinko, so we are happy to get another player from Coach Sankey at P-O."
