Women’s Basketball Falls Short in PSAC Quarterfinals at West Chester, 77-70

Lauren Gold scores game-high 25 points, sinks career-high six three pointers

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Eastern Division No. 3-seeded Shippensburg University women's basketball team fell 77-70 to West Chester on Tuesday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship Quarterfinal held inside Hollinger Field House.
 
Shippensburg (19-11) sophomore Lauren Gold scored 17 points and made five three-pointers in the first half. She finished with a game-high 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting including a career-best six three pointers on eight attempts (75 percent). Gold also recorded three steals, three rebounds and three assists.
 
The Raiders were able to limit West Chester (23-4) to 36 percent shooting in the opening frame and trailed by a score of 31-23 at the break.
 
SU made its first two shots of the game, however, it missed its next 18 shots over a span of 10:32 with the only point coming on a free throw from junior Stephanie Knauer.
 
Sophomore Morgan Griffith hit a three-point shot at the 15:21 point in the second half to tie the game at 38-38, marking the first tie since the 12:44 mark in the opening frame when the game was knotted at 7-7.
 
SU took its first lead since the opening minutes at the 9:13 mark of the second period when sophomore Logan Snyder scored a layup to put the Raiders up 47-46. SU held its last lead at 51-50 with 7:43 remaining before West Chester went on a 17-6 run to take a 10-point lead with 2:43 remaining in the contest.
 
Griffith recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 rebounds while Snyder finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
 
Knauer totaled nine points, six rebounds and three assists. Freshman Vicky Tumasz scored six points and was 2-of-3 from long range while sophomore Colleen Young finished with six point and three rebounds.
