Box Score
The Shippensburg University women's basketball team failed to get closer than five points in the second half and could not overcome efficient free-throw shooting from Kutztown as the No. 3-seed Raiders dropped a PSAC First Round game to No. 6-seed Kutztown in an 83-74 season-ending loss from Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (17-10) shot just 38 percent for the game while Kutztown (10-17) connected on 49 percent of its attempts from the floor. The Raiders were hampered without the contributions of sophomore
Stephanie Knauer who missed her first game of the season after suffering an injury in the team's regular-season finale on Saturday. Knauer averaged 12.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in SU's pair of 29-point wins over Kutztown in the regular season.
The Golden Bears took a 28-27 lead with 4:43 remaining in the first half and a 44-32 lead into halftime and never looked back while holding the lead for the remainder of the game.
The Raiders' attempts to get back into the game late were stymied by excellent free-throw shooting from Kutztown freshman Kara Funk, who went 10-of-10 from the stripe in the final 1:18 and finished with a team-high 17 points.
Senior
Sarah Strybuc scored 20 points as she went 5-for-11 from three-point range in her final collegiate game. She was removed from the floor with 0:50 remaining to a standing ovation from teammates, coaches and fans as she wraps up her career with 1,318 points. She ranks third in school history in three-point field goals (234), second in three-point attempts (656) and eighth in three-point percentage (35.7). Her 80 three-point field goals and 213 attempts this year each rank third in single-season school history.
Freshman
Lauren Gold scored a game-high 21 points, had five assists, five steals, and went 11-of-12 at the free-throw line as she set a new school record for free-throw percentage in a single season with her mark of 90.0 percent. Entering Saturday, she ranked 10th in Division II in free-throw percentage and first in the PSAC.
Freshman
Morgan Griffith scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as she collected her 11th double-double of the year while sophomore
Caitlyn Deeter had eight points and four rebounds.
SU finishes the season averaging 79.3 points per game, which marks the most in a single season since the school-record 80.8 points per game set by the 1995-96 national runner-up squad.
