Guard Joe Lococo of the Shippensburg University men's basketball team was named the PSAC Eastern Division Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office after leading the team in scoring in a 2-0 week for the Raiders.

Lococo scored 34 points over the course of two games this week, both victories for Shippensburg that helped snap a long losing streak. In a lopsided win at Bloomsburg, Lococo scored 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting and also had a career-high five steals, all of which came in the first half.

In Saturday's three-point victory over Mansfield, Lococo led all players with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting (58.3 percent). The highlight was his final basket – a go-ahead jumper with 12 seconds remaining in a tie game. Lococo was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc against the Mountaineers and all three of his free-throw attempts.

Overall, Lococo averaged 17 points per game last week while shooting 12-of-22 (54.5 percent) from the floor. Included in that total is a 5-of-7(71.4 percent) proficiency from three-point range. Lococo also had five assists to just two turnovers.

The Freedom High School graduate leads Shippensburg in scoring this season and ranks 13th in the PSAC(14.6). Lococo also ranks fifth in the league in three-pointers (34), seventh in minutes (35.0) and 10th in steals (26, 1.7).

Shippensburg earned a pair of victories last week to vault itself back into the Eastern Division playoff picture. SU had five players score in double figures in both victories, marking the second and third times this year that the team has accomplished the feat.

The Raiders host West Chester at 8 p.m. Wednesday from Heiges Field House.
