WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Shippensburg University field hockey team was limited to just two shots in a Friday afternoon PSAC semifinal contest against No. 6 Millersville, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Marauders from Vonnie Gros Field.

Shippensburg (17-2), currently No. 1 in the Atlantic Regional rankings, will await the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Selection Show at 2 p.m. Monday (the show will be webcast on NCAA.com). West Chester is the only team who can match the Raiders with the fewest losses from the Atlantic Region, and SU defeated the Golden Rams 3-0 earlier this season.

Millersville (13-6) opened the scoring less than three minutes into Friday's match and never looked back. Marauder Ashley Weber skillfully dribbled the ball along the end line and sent a crossing pass through the crease to an unmarked Katelyn Zapp, whose shot into the goal put Millersville up 1-0 at the 2:52 mark.

The Marauders dominated the possession battle and were sharp with their passes. SU was not credited with a shot in the second half and only managed five penalty corners in the contest.

Shippensburg's best chance to score came on a penalty corner in the final two minutes of play. The Raiders were in the process of sending a shot toward an open goal, but a whistle was blown for another corner during the chance, and the Marauders stopped the ensuing opportunity.

Three minutes earlier, with 5:30 on the clock, Shippensburg was awarded a penalty stroke after junior Bre White was tripped up in the box by Millersville goalkeeper Lauren Sotzin.

Sophomore Ari Saytar took the stroke, but Sotzin made a blocker-pad save.

Despite the loss, senior goalkeeper Ciarra Delost played well in goal for the Raiders – making eight saves.

SU has now lost its last three PSAC semifinal matches held either on the road or at a neutral site (1-2 vs. ESU [at Bloomsburg] in 2010 and 2-7 at Bloomsburg in 2008). Earlier this season, the Raiders earned a 2-1 win at Millersville on Sept. 6.
