LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Austin Strine finished the two-day heptathlon on Saturday just 32 points shy of an NCAA provisional qualifying mark to highlight a group of 19 PSAC qualifiers for the Shippensburg University men's indoor track & field team at the Bison Open from Gerhard Fieldhouse.

Strine, whose indoor multis PR entering the weekend was 4,100, finished third out of 14 competitors with 4,568 points. Among his two events on Saturday was a new collegiate PR in the pole vault (11 feet, 9 ¾ inches) and another PR of 2:53.02 in the 1,000 meters. Strine set new multis PRs in all seven events this weekend – five of which are collegiate PRs.

Freshman Leland Tate also completed his first multis competition as a Raider, placing 10th with 3,894 points.

Senior Eric Wolfe sniffed a NCAA provisional mark and the school record in the 400 meters by breaking 50 seconds for the first time indoors. He posted a time of 49.86 seconds to pace a group of four PSAC qualifiers in the event and now ranks fifth among his colleagues in the conference.

It was a splendid weekend for Wolfe, who also ran the 400 meters on the PSAC record-setting DMR that competed Friday night at Penn State.

Junior Matt Gillette set the team's season PR in the 800 meters as one of five Raiders to achieve PSAC qualifiers in that event. Gillette crossed the line in 1:57.40, while freshmen Matt Bee and Bernard England finished in 1:58 and freshmen Tom Kehl and Ryan Spangler finished in 1:59.

One day after their splendid efforts in the DMR, graduate Bryan Beegle and senior Stephen Schelander breezed through their PSAC qualifiers in the 3K, posting respective times of 8:33.57 and 8:36.96.

Meanwhile, junior Joel Flott of the DMR led a group of five Raiders in the 500 meters with a time of 1:06.59.

Graduate Jake Sitler finished the mile in 4:20.78 and now ranks fifth in the PSAC. SU currently boasts three of the top five milers in the league.

In the field, junior Kyle Dickinson went solo at the long jump pit but still posted a fine mark of 22 feet, 4 ½ inches to rank seventh in the conference for the event.

Shippensburg will send squads next weekend to the New Balance Games at the Armory in New York City and to the John Covert Classic held at Lehigh University.
