Shippensburg's Jamie Doughty Named CoSIDA District 2 Second Team Academic All-American

Doughty was SU field hockey’s third-leading scorer in 2009

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior field hockey forward Jamie Doughty was selected to the 2009-10 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's At Large Second Team for the College Division of District II, which encompasses all Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior colleges in the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Doughty, a 2009 NFHCA All-American, was the third-leading scorer on a team that finished 20-3 that advanced to the NCAA Division II Semifinals. She totaled nine goals and four assists for 22 points. In her career, Doughty tallied 21 goals and 18 assists in 73 games.

Academically, Doughty is a four-time NFHCA Division II Academic Squad member who entered her final semester with a 3.87 GPA. She graduated in May with a degree in elementary education and has achieved a 4.0 semester grade-point average on three occasions.

Outside the field of play, Doughty was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) who regularly volunteered her time as a tutor at Scotland School for Veteran's Children and Grace B. Luhrs Elementary School while helping out at the King's Kettle Food Bank in Shippensburg.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America® teams in 12 programs. A first team and second team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions. The women's at-large award includes nominees in the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
