ALBUQUERQUE –
The Shippensburg University men's and women's indoor track and field teams will be sending its largest contingent in history to the Division II National Championships on March 12-13, as nine athletes will compete in the altitude of Albuquerque with Adams State University serving as tournament hosts.

The women's distance medley relay squad of senior Mary Dell, senior Shannon Hare, junior Abby Huber and sophomore Neely Spence will seek to defend its national championship performance from last season in which SU set a national meet record. Earlier this season, the squad recorded the fastest qualifying time in the nation (11:25.16).

Five women will be competing individually. Spence and Dell are among the 15 qualifiers for the 5K, with Spence holding the top seed after her PSAC-record time of 16:13.01 set earlier this season. Queens (N.C.) senior Tanya Zeferjahn ranks second, just .69 seconds behind Spence, while the rest of the field has qualified at least 34 seconds behind the lead duo.

Junior Erica Hess, a four-time PSAC champion in the 400-meter dash, will be competing in the event for the second consecutive year at the national championships after once again qualifying 12th in Division II.

Sophomore Amanda Raudabaugh, the alternate for the DMR, will also be competing in the 800-meter dash. She ranks 13th in the country with a seed time of 2:13.99. In the field, junior Rebekah Newhart ranks sixth in Division II for the high jump and will be seeking a top performance.

After earning the Most Valuable Field Athlete at the PSAC Indoor Championships for the second consecutive year, senior Donnie Graybill ranks fourth in the heptathlon and will be seeking an All-American performance. Also on the men's side, sophomore Ed Buck is seeded 11th in the 800-meter run.
