SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -
Shippensburg women’s basketball senior forward Lauren Beckley has been recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as a 2009-10 First Team Academic All-American for the College Division of District 2. It is the second straight year that she has been recognized with this award.

Beckley is one of just two members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to be named to the first-team squad in the district along with Edinboro's Samantha Reimer and the pair are the only Division II first-team selections in the district. She currently boasts a 3.6 grade-point average while seeking an exercise science degree.

Thursday's first-team selections from each of the eight districts across the country will now be featured on CoSIDA's national Academic All-America ballot. District 2 is composed of every Division II, Division III, NAIA and two-year institution from Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, West Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Beckley leads the Lady Raiders in scoring (19.8 points per game), rebounds per game (9.4), three-pointers (44) and blocks (22) while posting a free-throw percentage of .877 this season for Shippensburg. She ranks second in the PSAC for both points and rebounds per game.

Already the leading scorer in Shippensburg history, Beckley is just 80 points shy of Valerie Walker's PSAC record and has compiled 2,209 career points. After compiling 1,066 rebounds to date, Beckley is just nine boards short of cracking the Top 10 in PSAC history. She remains to date one of five players in the history of the conference to achieve 2,000+ career points and 1,000+ career rebounds.

Thursday's honor marks the third academic award for Beckley, a WBCA All-American, conference scholar athlete and two-time PSAC Player of the Year. Nominations and voting for the Academic All-America programs are conducted the sports information directors at each institution.
