Red Raider Wrestling Falls To No. 4 Pittsburgh-Johnstown On Senior Night, 39-3

Barrick picks up decision win at 174 pounds

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University wrestling team struggled to find points against national power No. 4 Pittsburgh-Johnstown Wednesday on Senior Night from Heiges Field House. The Red Raiders dropped the match, 39-3.

Redshirt junior Chris Barrick was the lone Red Raider to pick up a win. Barrick, ranked third at 174 pounds in the most recent regional poll, scored a 5-1 decision win over Pittsburgh-Johnstown's Steve Makin. Makin entered ranked fifth in the regional poll. Barrick advanced his winning streak to seven matches.

Prior to the match, Shippensburg (6-7) honored three outgoing seniors for their contributions to the Red Raider wrestling program.

Redshirt senior Jon Hade has been a battler since he hit the mats for Shippensburg in 2008. In his debut season, Hade posted a 21-13 record and had three major decisions and one victory by fall. He also finished third at the PSAC Championships. His second season with the team included an 11-4 mark in dual meets that was capped off by a triple-overtime sudden victory here at Heiges Field House. Overall, Hade has compiled a 39-28 record with Shippensburg and a 24-15 mark in dual meets. He has five career major decisions and two pins.

Redshirt senior Nate Nauroth has had a dynamic career in his two years with Shippensburg, posting an overall record of 24-10 that includes a 13-3 mark in dual meets. In his 34 career matches with the Red Raiders, Nauroth has racked up 13 pins and one major decision. Counting his four years as a collegiate wrestler, Nauroth has posted an overall career record of 51-27 that includes 19 pins, three major decisions and two tech falls. He was a runner-up at the PSAC Championships as a freshman. This season, Nauroth is among the top wrestlers in the Atlantic Region at 141 pounds and has posted a 9-3 record with seven pins.

Redshirt senior Bill Purvis has thrived as a senior, posting a 6-6 dual meet record this year and serving as the team's starter at 157 pounds. Among his accomplishments this year are one technical fall and two major decisions. This season, Purvis has posted an overall record of 7-10. In his career, Purvis has recorded 13 victories for Shippensburg.

Shippensburg concludes its regular season dual meet schedule at 7 p.m. Friday against No. 18 Kutztown from Keystone Hall.
