SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University wrestling team won eight consecutive bouts on Thursday evening from Heiges House and scored bonus points in six of them to record a convincing dual meet victory over Division III opponent York, 39-7.
Shippensburg (6-3) trailed 4-0 after the bout at 125 pounds but then scored bonus points in the next six weight classes to take control of the match. Freshman
Simon Rice started the string at 133 pounds with a victory by fall in 5:51 over Shaun Wagner to record his fourth straight win by fall.
Redshirt senior
Nate Nauroth returned to the lineup at 141 pounds and picked up his team-high seventh pin of the season in 82 seconds over York's Josh Trainor. Freshman
Devan Jones had a strong third period at 149 pounds, achieving two takedowns and establishing a riding time advantage to pick up a 9-1 major decision.
At 157 pounds, senior
Bill Purvis got a takedown no more than 10 seconds into his match against Dylan Gialdalia and got a riding time point at the buzzer to achieve a 17-2 technical fall, improving his record to 6-7.
Redshirt junior
Nate Reese continued the bonus streak going at 165 pounds with a victory by fall in 3:59 over Matt Heisey. Reese started down to start the second period but recorded an impressive reversal and flipped Heisey onto his back. Four of Reese's five victories this season have been by fall.
Not to be outdone, redshirt senior
Chris Barrick picked up his second-fastest pin of the season at 174 pounds with his fifth victory by fall. This win came in 2:00 over Zach Downing, as Barrick had a takedown and a near fall before achieving the pin.
The closest match of the night came at 184 pounds, where redshirt senior
Jon Hade grappled with Alex Martocello and completed the seven-minute bout with a 1-1 tie. Just 21 seconds into the overtime, Hade achieved a sudden victory with a takedown to record a 3-1 decision.
Freshman
Keith Dahlheimer, the reigning PSAC Wrestler of the Week, tallied an 8-2 decision over Kossi Fiavi at 197 pounds.
York (8-17) picked up a 12-3 major decision to start the match from Aaron Repman and closed the dual with an 8-3 decision from Tom Fitzpatrick. The Spartans were beginning a five-match road trip to close its regular season.
Shippensburg returns to action a week from Saturday with a tri-meet at Delaware Valley. In addition to wrestling with the host Aggies, the Red Raiders will also grapple with Mercyhurst, a strong regional opponent.
