SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University wrestling team recorded victories in eight of its 10 bouts on Thursday night from Heiges Field House and scored bonus points in four of them as the Red Raider grapplers earned their first dual meet win of the year, 32-6 over the Griffins of Seton Hill University.

Shippensburg (1-2) dropped the opening dual at 125 pounds but won four consecutive rounds, including two by major decision, to take a 14-3 lead. SHU took the decision at 165 pounds before the Red Raiders closed out the final four rounds with wins.

Two Raiders recorded pins: redshirt junior Chris Barrick at 174 pounds and redshirt junior Brian Hindle at 197 pounds. Barrick had a reversal, two takedowns and a near fall before recording his pin in 2:31. Hindle made a great move early in his match and earned his victory by fall in 1:32.

Freshman Devan Jones earned his first victory as a Red Raider with an 11-3 major decision. Jones held a 3-0 lead entering the final frame but recorded three takedowns, including one at the final buzzer, to record his win.

In the match after Jones, redshirt senior Bill Purvis recorded the first dual meet of his career with an impressive major decision, 13-3. His match was 5-2 entering the third period but Purvis recorded two more takedowns and had accrued over five minutes of riding time to bolster his score.
