Hope Cornell and junior utility
Lori Knopf were both selected to the All-PSAC Eastern Division Second Team released on Wednesday afternoon by the conference. Cornell was also named to the Daktronics, Inc., All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team.
Cornell was also named to the Daktronics Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team as a shortstop. It is the first post-season recognition for both players.
Cornell is one of just two players this season to start in all 52 of the team's games this season, including 49 at shortstop. The freshman is second on the team in batting average behind Knopf, hitting .340 while leading the team in home runs (eight), RBIs (38) and runs (32).
With 18 extra-base hits this season, Cornell is slugging .571 while ranking third on the team in at-bats with 156. Her RBI total ranks fifth best in the PSAC.
Knopf has been the team's most valuable bat this season while she also functions as the No. 2 starter. In the batter's box, Knopf is hitting a team-best .360 with four home runs and 35 RBIs. Knopf is second on the team in total bases with 83 and has scored 23 runs.
Knopf is tied for third in the PSAC in hits this season with 58 and tied for fourth in the conference in doubles with 13. In the circle, Knopf has thrown 13 complete games and totaled nine victories while striking out 83 batters.
Shippensburg has had seven selections to the All-PSAC Eastern Division softball squads over the last three seasons.
Kutztown's Ashley Fitzgerald was named the Eastern Division Player of the Year, while Bloomsburg's Ashley Lynn selected as the Eastern Division Pitcher of the Year. The Eastern Division Rookie of the Year was Bloomsburg's Lacy Mauro while West Chester's Diane Lokey was named the Eastern Division Coach of the Year.
