Day Three Prelims (w/1,650-free times)
FAIRFAX, Va. – Five Raider swimmers finished among the Top 15 in the 100-yard freestyle event on Sunday to highlight the final day of competition for the Shippensburg men’s swimming team from the 2008 Patriot Invitational.
Leading the group was senior
John Miller, who finished sixth with a time of 47.65 seconds after qualifying in 47.37. Junior
Nate Ryan took eighth place in 47.97 seconds after qualifying in 47:42.
In the consolation swim, sophomore
Josh Nyce completed the freestyle in 47.60 seconds for 11th place, while senior
Gabe Oropollo took 12th in 47.95 and sophomore
Tim Smullen finished 15th in 48.70.
The 400-yard freestyle relay squad of Oropollo, Nyce, Ryan and Miller took fourth place with a durable time of 3:09.14.
Individually, junior
Shane Wolter placed fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:10.42, while senior
Brian Taylor was fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:55.84. Senior
Ryan Rocchi completed the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:14.26.
The men totaled 377 points through the three days of competition, finishing in fifth place and placing ahead of Division I programs Georgetown and George Washington. After the Thanksgiving break, the team will return to action on December 5-7 in the Zippy Invitational held at the University of Akron.
