Drew Krapf, a native of Dowington, was one of the most exciting wrestlers to ever compete for Shippensburg University. He broke the team single season and career records for pins and he is one of only a few Red Raiders grapplers to win 100 matches in a career.

When Krapf was wrestling, Shippensburg competed on the NCAA Division I level and had respectable seasons all four years. In his senior season the team finished 22nd in the country at the national championships.

As a freshman Krapf won 11 with eight pins. His sophomore season in 1976 saw the Shippensburg record book crushed by setting the single season records for victories with 38 and pins with 21. He also won the 118 pound title at the NCAA Division I Eastern Region championships. At the national championships, Krapf upset Dan Gable’s protégé, Keith Mourlam, in the first round. Krapf used his mastery of the Peterson Roll and the Guillotine to get back points en route to his 13-11 victory over the second-seeded Mourlam. Krapf was defeated in the next round.

In 1977, Krapf again won the NCAA Eastern Region championship, but lost in the first round at the nationals. He put together 33 wins and with nine pins. In 1978 Krapf won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship at 118 pounds. He finished second at the NCAA East Region meet but still qualified to compete at the national championships. Krapf won his matches in the first two rounds narrowly missing All-American honors. He lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual national champion, Andy Daniels of Ohio University, 7-6. Krapf fell behind 5-0 in the first period but dominated the final two. He finished the season with a 23-6-1 record with 11 pins which brought his career totals to 105 wins and 49 pins.

After graduating Krapf remained in his hometown of Downingtown in Chester County where he started a building and development company. Krapf also remained active in the sport of wrestling, working out with the Downingtown High School team.
