Bryan Beegle shattered the PSAC record on Friday night with a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 9:47.57 at the Penn State National Invitational from Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
The SU quartet surpassed the school and PSAC record of 9:55.36 that was set at last year's Penn State National Invitational. Last year's relay, which featured Beegle as the anchor along with junior

Pio Mandato, won the 2011 NCAA Division II national championship with a time of 9:57.25.
The reported splits were as follows: Schelander blistered through the 1,200 in 2:55, Wolfe ran the 400 in 48.5, Flott crushed the 800 in 1:53 and Beegle provided the stupendous 1,600-meter anchor leg of 4:05.
Shippensburg finished third in the race, only trailing the 'A' squads of Penn State (9:35.24) and Virginia (9:42.97). Among the teams the Raiders defeated were Villanova, Georgetown, Ohio State and Duquesne.
The NCAA Division II 'A' cut is 9:50.2. The fastest time this season in Division II entering Friday's race was West Texas A&M's mark of 10:12.01. The quartet also came within four seconds of breaking the previous meet record.
Also on Friday, senior
Tyrek Nelson posted a time of 8.52 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.
Shippensburg will compete Saturday at the Bison Open from Bucknell University.
Notes: Kutztown fielded a DMR squad in the non-invitational race held earlier in the evening...the team of Zach Fleming, Geoff Mock, Kori Meshaw and Eli Weeks finished in 10:05.43, a NCAA provisional qualifying mark…prior to last season, the previous PSAC record for a banked track was set by Lock Haven in 2007 with a time of 9:55.59.
