Bill Morgal '06/10M has been named the sports information director at Shippensburg University effective immediately, according to Dr. Jody Harpster, executive vice president for external affairs and university relations.

Morgal was the interim sports information director at Shippensburg for the last two years, serving as the primary public contact for all 20 intercollegiate athletics programs and the sole editor of the SU athletics website, www.shipraiders.com.

“We conducted a national search to fill the job full-time and I'm happy that Bill was selected to continue in the position,” Harpster said. “Two years ago when we asked him to take on this important role, he graciously agreed and since then his professionalism and integrity have enabled him to provide valuable support to our student-athletes, the coaches and our entire athletics department. He has made valuable contributions to the university and we look forward to those contributions continuing.”

According to Jeff Michaels, acting athletic director, “I am extremely happy that Bill has been named the SID. I am comfortable saying on behalf of the athletics department that everyone feels the same way about this decision. He has done an outstanding job promoting our department for the last two years.”

Morgal began working in the sports information department in Fall 2004 and has fulfilled a variety of game management roles and supervisory positions during the past six years. He graduated cum laude from Shippensburg in December 2006 with a bachelor's degree in communications/journalism and a concentration in print media along with a minor in English. In May 2010 he received his master's degree in communications studies.

In 2009, Morgal was the host SID for two NCAA playoff events and three PSAC tournaments during the fall season. He served as the primary statistician and media liaison for Shippensburg's NCAA Second Round football game against California (Pa.) and all three games of the 2009 PSAC Field Hockey Championships.

During his tenure as interim sports information director, he was named the 2009-10 “Raider of the Year,” an honor that recognizes an active participant in supporting Shippensburg athletics. He also was a part of a SU design team that received a CoSIDA publications award for the production of the 2009 women's lacrosse media guide.

In May 2008, he was the public address announcer at the NCAA Division II lacrosse championships in Houston. Morgal has also fulfilled that role at the 2006 Division II field hockey national championships in Florida and also volunteered with the sports information staff at the 2006 Division I women's basketball championship at the Pennsylvania State University.

Morgal, a native of Elkridge, Md., is a member of CoSIDA, ECAC-SIDA and the NCBWA. He also serves as secretary of the PSAC SIDs, an associate editor of the Shippensburg University magazine and a member of the Shippensburg University Hall of Fame committee.
