SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University field hockey junior
Kristen Brooks will be named this Saturday as the 2010 recipient of the Clarence Schock Foundation's Fellowship Award. The foundation's award, given annually to one student each from Cheyney, Kutztown, Millersville, West Chester and Shippensburg, provides tuition for a full year.
Brooks, who competed as a member of the NCAA Division II national semi-finalist Lady Raider field hockey team, completed the fall 2009 semester with a 3.966 grade-point average after five semesters of coursework at Shippensburg. The management major was also named an inaugural recipient of the NCAA's Elite 88 award at the November field hockey championships. That award was presented to Brooks for holding the highest cumulative grade-point average at the site of the national championship competition.
Organized in 1941 and later renamed the Clarence Schock Foundation, the non-profit organization seeks to provide funds for public education through scholarships for deserving students. The Clarence Schock Fellowship, established in 2006, honors a rising senior who demonstrates academic achievement, public service, commitments to environmental preservation and a will to enhance the quality of life in the communities where the student lives and studies.
