OMAHA, Neb. –
Redshirt junior wrestling co-captain Chris Barrick, ranked No. 8 in the nation at 174 pounds, won both of his Friday matches from the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships and advanced to the national semifinals to be held on Saturday from Sapp Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Barrick moved into seventh place on Shippensburg's all-time wins list and is now guaranteed All-American status by virtue of his performance thus far at the national championships. His current total of 87 victories puts him past Mark Szanca '84 and Matt Mentzer '96 in the school's record books and he now boasts an overall record of 87-17.

His opening match of the day was a convincing 12-1 major decision over Matt Bailes of Central Missouri. During the night session in the quarterfinals, Barrick faced Mitch Norton, a redshirt senior from Upper Iowa ranked No. 2 in the nation who recorded a victory by fall in his opening match. Barrick avenged his loss in the quarterfinals last season with an impressive 7-3 decision over Norton to reach the semifinals.

Barrick's next opponent will be Nebraska-Kearney's Kamarudeen “Marty” Usman, a redshirt senior who boasts a 42-1 record this season. Usman, a two-time All-American, is the top-ranked wrestler in Division II and has recorded decisions of 9-2 and 2-0 through the first two rounds.
