Video Interview With Neely and Steve Spence

NEW YORK CITY - Sophomore Neely Spence broke a 25-year-old conference record in the 5K, senior Mary Dell posted the third-fastest 5K time in the nation and freshman Megan Breski tied the school record in the pole vault on another banner day of competition Friday for the Shippensburg University women's track and field team at the New Balance Games held inside the Armory Track and Field Center.
 
Spence's blazing time of 16:13.01 surpasses the previous PSAC record of 16:17.10 set by West Chester's Julie Bowers in 1985. Dell posted a provisional qualifying mark of 17:04.01 that also broke the previous Shippensburg University record that was set in 1998 by hall of famer Steph Yingling (17:16.80).

Additionally, Spence's time becomes the fastest in Division II this season. Tanya Zeferjahn, a senior from Queens (N.C.), had a time of 16:13.70 at the UW Invitational.

Breski continued to progress this season and posted her best performance to date in the pole vault. Breski cleared 11 feet, 3.75 inches (3.45 meters) to tie the mark set by Christine Kihm in 2006.

Not to be outdone, junior Katie Frey ran the 3K in 10:01.01, the second-fastest time in the PSAC this season behind Jen Harpp and seven seconds ahead of Neely Spence's effort at the Bucknell Heptagonal.
