SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg women's basketball junior forward Kasey Gardner was named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week on Monday afternoon by conference officials for the first time in her career after a stellar stretch of play in which she totaled 40 points and 18 rebounds in two PSAC Eastern Division victories.

Gardner helped lead Shippensburg to a perfect 2-0 week, including a double-overtime win over Cheyney on Saturday, by averaging 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists for the week. She made 12-of-23 shots from the field, 11-of-13 free-throw attempts (84.6 percent) and was 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) from three-point range.

She started the week with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with four assists in a win over Bloomsburg. She then led the Lady Raiders with 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting on Saturday over the Wolves along with eight rebounds and just one turnover in 47 minutes of play.

Gardner has also been the team's leading scorer through six conference games, averaging 18.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from 3-point range (14-of-28). Her efforts defensively were also a significant factor in the Lady Raiders holding both of their opponents last week to 25 percent shooting from the field.

Shippensburg begins a three-game PSAC Eastern Division road trip at 6 p.m. on Wednesday from Hollinger Field House against West Chester, a team picked to win the Eastern Division in the preseason coaches poll but is currently tied with the Lady Raiders at 3-3 in conference play.
