KINGSVILLE, Texas - A pair of Shippensburg University football players performed admirably on Friday night in the 2010 Valero Cactus Bowl, as senior split end
Mike Harris and senior punter
Kyler Ford represented the East team in the annual Division II All-Star Game held at Texas A&M Kingsville's Javelina Stadium.
Harris was one of just two receivers on the East Division squad with multiple catches in the game, hauling in three receptions for 24 yards. His longest catch went for 12 yards. He counted for one-fifth of the team's 121 total yards on offense as the West team earned a 16-0 victory.
Despite Harris's solid performance, the East squad never quite got its offense going, so Ford was kept pretty busy during the cold and windy evening in which temperatures never got above 40 degrees. Ford kicked seven punts in the game, averaging 37.3 per boot, including a long punt of 47 yards. Three of his punts landed inside the 20-yard line.
The two Red Raiders, along with the rest of the Division II all stars, are optimistic that their performances helped make them more appealing to the numerous National Football League (NFL) scouts in attendance during the week. Friday night's game capped off a six-day stretch of activities for the players.
Notes: Edinboro quarterback Trevor Harris 10-of-13 passes for 97 yards and one interception, with one of those incompletions being a dropped pass...he also ran the ball three times for 17 yards...West Chester linebackers Sam Scott and Mike Dell combined for 21 tackles...Cal defensive back Terrence Johnson had four tackles.
