Day Two Results

AKRON, Ohio - Senior Shane Wolter and freshman Eric Naylor posted a pair of solid freestyle performances as the Shippensburg University men's swimming team remained in sixth place after the second day of competition from the 2009 Zippy Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron at the Ocasek Natatorium.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Wolter placed fifth with a time of 1:43.46 while Naylor was right behind in seventh place with a time of 1:44.03. Shippensburg and fellow PSAC school Clarion qualified five of the eight finalists in the 'A' group of the event. Both times are new season-bests for Shippensburg. Then, the 800-yard freestyle relay of Naylor, sophomore Richard Deley, senior Tim Smullen and Wolter placed fourth with a time of 7:02.80.

Sophomores Derek Yeager and Evan Manning reached the 'B' group finals of the 100-yard breaststroke and finished in 10th and 11th place respectively. Both men posted sub-60 second times, with Yeager tapping in at 59.49 seconds and Manning clocking in at 59.92 seconds.

Sophomore Mitch Paczesniak and senior Drew Hagerich reached the 'B' group finals of the 400-yard individual medley, with Paczesniak placing 11th in a season-best 4:19.73 and Hagerich finishing his swim in 13th with a season-best time of 4:22.26.

The reign of sophomores continued on Saturday with sophomore Joe Keefe, who reached the 'B' group finals in the 100-yard backstroke and placed 13th with a season-best time of 54.05 seconds.

Also in relay competition, the 200-yard medley squad of Joe Keefe, Yeager, Naylor and senior Nate Ryan finished ninth with a time of 1:36.11.

The third and final day of competition begins tomorrow with morning preliminary swims.
