AKRON, Ohio - The Shippensburg University men's swimming team is in sixth place after a solid first day of competition from the 2009 Zippy Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron at the Ocasek Natatorium.

Freshman Eric Naylor finished sixth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:42.04 that ranks second on the team this year. Senior Drew Hagerich also finished 12th in the same event with a time of 4:44.62, narrowly edging his time at the Patriot Invitational.

Freshman Sean Minford was the leading competitor in the 200-yard individual medley for Shippensburg and ended up finishing 10th with a time of 1:57.94 after qualifying 15th. The time is an improvement of nearly one full second from the George Mason meet.

Additionally, the 400-yard medley relay team of senior Nate Ryan, sophomore Evan Manning, Naylor and senior Tim Smullen finished eighth with a time of 3:32.46.
