LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Senior men's swimmer
Shane Wolter was honored on Tuesday by conference officials as the PSAC Men's Swimmer of the Week after a stupendous weekend at the 2009 Patriot Invitational, hosted by George Mason University.
Wolter, SU's first winner of the award since 2007, won the 1,650-yard freestyle at the Division I-laden event and was less than two seconds from earning an automatic-qualifying time for the Division II National Championships. Wolter swam the mile in 15:59.91, besting the field by more than seven seconds.
His stellar weekend continued with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:36.06 and ninth-place finish to win the consolation group of the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:07.68. All three of the efforts were NCAA 'B' cuts and helped Shippensburg earn a sixth-place team finish this weekend.
Wolter and the Red Raiders will return to action in two weeks at the 2009 Zippy Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron.
