FAIRFAX, Va. - Freshman Julia Brownrigg won the 'B' group final in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.58) during the final day of competition in the 2009 Patriot Invitational from the Jim McKay Natatorium as the Lady Raiders had an impressive weekend from George Mason University.

In addition to Brownrigg's performance in the 200, the freshman swimmer impressed in the 100-yard backstroke on Saturday with a fourth-place finish with a time of 58.36 seconds. That effort set a new school record in the event, eclipsing the previous mark set by Kim Magnanelli in 2004 (58.96). Overall, Brownrigg placed in the 'A' or 'B' finals in three individual events and helped contribute to three relays this weekend. 

Also on Sunday, sophomore Rachael Ballard finished 12th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.19 while senior Whitney Garner finished 14th in 100-yard freestyle with time of 53.59 seconds.

Shippensburg finished the three-day competition in sixth place, surpassing Division I programs such as George Washington and American. The next big meet for the Lady Raiders will be held December 4-6 when Shippensburg travels to Akron, Ohio to compete in the Zippy Invitational.
