FAIRFAX, Va. - Senior Shane Wolter continued his stellar season on Sunday during the final day of competition in the 2009 Patriot Invitational from the Jim McKay Natatorium by winning the 1,650-yard freestyle in 15:59.91 and thriving over the course of the three-day meet from George Mason University.

Swimming in the nicest natatorium the team will see during the regular season, Shippensburg posted several impressive times that will serve as benchmarks for the remainder of the season. Wolter's impressive performance, a win by seven full seconds over the rest of the Division I-laden field, was one of the many impressive highlights for the Red Raider swimmers this weekend. In addition to Wolter's time, senior Drew Hagerich finished fourth overall in the same event with a time of 16:18.04.

Two other Red Raiders qualified for the championship finals on Sunday, with freshman Sean Minford placing sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:10.61 and junior Tim Smullen finished eighth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.36 seconds.

Additionally, senior Nate Ryan placed 11th in the 'B' group final for the 100-yard freestyle and was a hair faster than Smullen with a time of 47.25 seconds, while freshman Eric Naylor placed 12th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.35. Additionally, the 400-yard freestyle relay of Smullen, Naylor, Wolter and Ryan finished in sixth place with a time of 3:09.28.

Shippensburg finished the three-day competition in fifth place with 352.5 points, surpassing Division I programs Georgetown, George Washington and American. The next big meet for the Red Raiders will be held December 4-6 when Shippensburg travels to Akron, Ohio to compete in the Zippy Invitational.
