Friday's Final Results
FAIRFAX, Va. - Senior swimmer
Whitney Garner enhanced her school record in the 200-yard individual medley on Friday night during the first day of competition in the 2009 Patriot Invitational from the Jim McKay Natatorium with a sensational time of 2:09.57 to lead a strong group of performances for the Lady Raiders.
Last year, Garner surpassed the 11-year-old school record of Heni Toth with her first-day performance at the Patriot Invitational. On Friday, Garner only qualified for the 'C' group but swam her record time in the finals and would have placed fourth overall among the other competitors.
In the same event, freshman
Julia Brownrigg finished 11th with a tme of 2:11.40. Earlier, she teamed with Garner, junior
Sarah Bratman and sophomore
Nicole Capozzi to place sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.74.
Other strong individual performances included Capozzi's 13th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.70 seconds and junior
Amy Fisher's 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:09.07.
Shippensburg is currently in seventh place with 64 points through the first day of competition and will continue its competition on Saturday and Sunday from George Mason University.
