Friday Night's Results
FAIRFAX, Va. - Senior
Shane Wolter aced the 500-yard freestyle on Friday night during the first day of competition in the 2009 Patriot Invitational from the Jim McKay Natatorium, finishing second in 4:36.06 as the Red Raiders thrived amidst a field chock-full of Division I competition.
A pair of SU swimmers also qualified for the finals in their respective events and posted solid times. Freshman
Eric Naylor finished sixth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:55.54, while junior
Tim Smullen finished sixth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.48 seconds.
Additionally, senior
Nate Ryan placed 13th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.64 seconds while senior
Drew Hagerich also performed admirably in the 500-yard freestyle, placing 14th with a time of 4:45.62.
A pair of relays also performed well in the pool for Shippensburg. The 200-yard freestyle relay of freshman
Eddie LaNoue, junior
Jamie Kendall, Smullen and Ryan placed fifth with a time of 1:25.92. The 400-yard medley relay of Ryan, junior
Derek Yeager, Naylor and Smullen finished in seventh place with a time of 3:30.33.
Shippensburg is currently in fifth place with 126 points through the first day of competition and will continue its competition on Saturday and Sunday from George Mason University.
